J. "Jake" Frank Burns, Jr., 67, of Mount Vernon Springs Road, Siler City died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at VA Medical Center, Durham.
Mr. Burns was born in Chatham County on September 22, 1945 at Siler City, NC the son of Frank and Annie (Wilson) Burns, Sr. He was a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Jake was employed as a construction contractor. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Diane Dowd Burns; one daughter: Elizabeth Ann Burns of Staley, NC and two sons: Thomas Jake Burns of Norfolk, VA, Russell David Burns of Siler City, NC; one sister: Betty Lou Sanders of Eagle Springs, NC; five grandchildren; nephews, Gary Sanders, Danny Sanders, David Dowd, Buddy Maness, Taylor Dowd; nieces, Cindy Burns Draper, Lisa Burns Cox, Bridget Dowd Lowry; Rose and Rhonda Maness.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2981 Hwy 42, Goldston with Rev. Phillip Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
