Heiskell Ernest "H. E. " Smith, 90, formerly of Smith Hudson Road, Siler City, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2013 at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Center in Pittsboro. Heiskell was born on August 11, 1922 to Hugh White Smith and Vivian Smith.
Mr. Smith grew up during the Great Depression, and during his lifetime worked in construction, welding, log cutting, insurance, farming, and sales; and was owner and operator of Randy's Grill in Siler City during the 1970s. He loved his Lord, his family and gardening. He attended Faith Baptist Church and Calvary Faith Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Whie Smith and Vivian Lafayette Heiskell, and by a step-brother Claudiaus Wrenn Brewer.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 71 years, Kathleen Fox Smith; his daughters Margaret Smith Young (Phil) and Carolyn Smith Handley (Herb) of Siler City; and his sons: Ernest (Linda), Ronald (Margaret) , Mike (Carol), Donald (Sheree) all of Siler City, and Randy (Lisa) of Bear Creek. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Roman (Carol), Leonard (Glenda), and Clayton (Marie), as well as sister Anna Marie Smith, step-sister Virginia McGinnis of Phoenix, AZ, 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild. All total, he and his descendants total 72.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and at other times at the home of Ernest Smith, 700 Smith Hudson Road, Siler City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 303 Hillbrook Blvd., Siler City, and will be officiated by Pastor Bobby Shutt. A graveside service will follow at the Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Cambridge Hills Assisted Living and Community Home Care & Hospice, especially Sherry Beal, for their wonderful care during Daddy's declining health. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Todd Granger for his wonderful care over the years.
