Harry Lee Horney, 88, of 1434 Sunset Drive, Siler City died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mr. Horney was born in Guilford County on May 6, 1927, the son of William Edd and Clara Levens Horney. Harry Lee was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and was a Deacon Emeritus. Mr. Horney was founder and co-owner of Carolina Stockyard. He was a member of the Chatham County Cattlemen Association and was a Chatham County Agriculture Hall of Fame inductee. He loved working on the farm, his cows and spending time with his grandchildren. Harry Lee was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William Howard and Clarence Homer Horney, a daughter, Jeanne W. Stone.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Jean Steed Welch Horney, a daughter: Patricia Horney Neinast and husband, Mark of Gastonia, NC; a son: Mike Welch and Wife, Wanda of Carlsbad, NM; Son-in-law, Jerry Stone of Siler City, NC; Grandchildren, Michael Welch of Carlsbad, NM, Wendy Chesser, San Angelo, TX, John Gaddy, Wilmington, NC, Jason Gaddy, Randleman, NC, Jessica Roman, Randleman, NC, Justin Stone, Wilmington, NC, Will Neinast and Claire Neinast, both of Gastonia, NC; sister-in-laws, Margie Horney and Violet Horney both of Greensboro, NC; 19 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. and a special caregiver, Ann Oldham
The family will receive friends Monday, September 7, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Patrick Fuller and Rev. John Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
