Guy David "Footnie" Smith, 86, of Siler City died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Siler City Center.
Mr. Smith was born in Chatham County on August 21, 1927 the son of Ed and Essie (Smith) Smith, one of 14 children.
He an Army veteran, a member of West End United Methodist Church with 30 perfect attendance pins and had served
his church in numerous offices including choir director and Sunday School teacher. He was also a lay minister. Guy taught Distributive Education in Chatham County Schools, coached basketball and umpired recreational league for 30 years. He served 25 years on the Board of Commissioners for the Town of Siler City. He also worked for a number of years for Brewer Insurance and Realty. He enjoyed Jordan Matthews sports, bingo and checkers. Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Apple Smith.
He is survived by two daughters: Shirley Ann Lucas of Siler City, NC, Anna Smario and husband Tony of Greensboro,
NC; grandsons, Joseph Perry and wife Kim of Apex, NC, Tim Johnson and wife Kristen of Climax, NC; great-grandchildren,
Cohen and Aniston Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home,
230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at West End United
Methodist Church, 1104 N. Chatham Ave., Siler City with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham
Memorial Park, Siler City.
