Gerry Alan Phillips, 64, of NC Hwy 42, Bear Creek died Friday, December 5, 2014 at First Health Hospital, Pinehurst.
Gerry was born in Chatham County on August 21, 1950 the son of Wade Herman and Lois Smith Phillips. Gerry was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday School and was a former member of the choir and he will be remembered for his beautiful singing voice. He was a 1968 graduate of Chatham Central High School and attended Elon College. He was employed by Ramtex for 37 years, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was known for his athletic abilities. He attended Karate Class and was proud of being recognized as a 1st Dan Black Belt. His greatest joys were times spent with his family, and he will be remembered as a loving, giving person.
Gerry was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Alan Phillips and a daughter, Crystal Lynne Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy King Phillips; his parents, Herman and Lois Smith Phillips; sister, Cheryl Baldwin; a host of nieces and nephews and his best buddy, canine companion, Jack.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344. The funeral will be Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Fall Creek Baptist Church, 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett, NC 27208 with Rev. Scott Allmon and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
