George Henry Andrews, Jr., 86, of Siler City died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Mr. Andrews was born in Chatham County on July 21, 1929 the son of George Henry and Beatrice (Martin) Andrews. George attended Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, attended UNC for two years and was a 1958 graduate of NC State University. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, was a member of the Seabees, stationed in Guam and helped clear land for Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. George was a chemist in the pulp and paper industry. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, basketball and in earlier years had coached baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Jean (Wrenn) Andrews.; one daughter: Alison Andrews Knappenberger and husband, Nick of Ft Wayne, IN; one son: Charlie M. Andrews and wife, Brandy of Siler City; two sisters: Barbara Jones of Pittsboro and Eleanor Jane Wilmont of Raleigh; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
