Geneva McTillman Rodgers

Geneva McTillman Rodgers, 98, of Sears Street, Siler City died Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Rodgers was born in Elliott, South Carolina on September 25, 1921 the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Scarborough) McTillman. Geneva had worked as a custodian with the Chatham County Schools but she was a homemaker devoted to her family. She enjoyed sewing and working puzzle books. Geneva was a member of Gees Grove AME Zion Church where she had served as an usher, Missionary President for 25 years, a Deacon for 50 years, the kitchen committee for 10 years, as well as numerous other positions through the years.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus Rodgers; her parents; brothers, Johnny, Joe, Harold, Wilmore, James, Roy and Bobby McTillman; sisters, Virginia McTillman and Mary Wiggins; son-in-law, Anthony Baldwin.

She is survived by three daughters: Angela Foster of Siler City, Stephanie Baldwin of Fayetteville and Yvette Rodgers of Siler City of Siler City; sister: Helen Dancy of Roosevelt, NY; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marie McClain (Albert) and Ether Mae McTillman

Family and friends may register condolences Friday, October 18, 2019 from 8:00 until 5:00 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Gees Grove AME Zion Church, 245 Gees Grove Road, Siler City, NC. The funeral will follow Saturday at 2:00 PM at Gees Grove with Rev. Allen Moore and Rev. Edward Hill, III officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
