Fred N. "Buck" Perry, 84, of 2146 Bowers Store Road, Siler City died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Buck was born in Chatham County on February 10, 1928, the son of Dan and Otelia Jenks Perry.
He was employed as a supervisor with the Department of Transportation retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of Oak Ridge Hunting Club in Jackson, NC. Buck was an avid hunter, farmer, caregiver to his wife and a devoted grandparent. One of his favorite sayings was "To have a neighbor, you have to be a neighbor". He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, A. J. Perry and sister, Agnes Webster.
Buck is survived by his wife of 62 years: Sarah Freeland Perry, one daughter: Sylvia Perry Tant and one son: Mel L. Perry both of Siler City; two sisters: Bula Mae Beard and Exi Fields also of Siler City; grandchildren, Timothy Pendergrass (Shelia), Cynthia Mote and, Kenneth Hayes; great-grandchildren, Carrie and Corey Mote; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 23, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. William Fields officiating. Burial will be in Perry Family Cemetery, Siler City.
