Floyd Arnold Brown Sr. (Brownie), 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Siler City Center. Formerly of Sanford, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara C. Brown. Daughter, Shawn Poe and husband Darrell of Bear Creek. Sons, Floyd Arnold Brown, Jr. of Chandler, AZ and Todd Brown of Sanford; sisters, Iris Strother and Joyce Wilson of Carthage; brothers, Herman Brown of Carthage and Ralph Brown of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jennifer Holder of Bear Creek, Christin Poe of Asheboro, Brittany Poe of Raleigh, Delaney Brown of Chandler, AZ and Brent Brown of Carthage; great-grandchildren Shelby and Preston Holder of Bear Creek. He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Lisk of Carthage.
A native of Moore County, Mr. Brown was a veteran of World War II. He was an airline pilot flying for Resort Airlines, Corporate Pilot for Roberts Company and Chief Pilot for the State of North Carolina. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, musician and golfer. He was known for his marksmanship, winning several skeet and sporting clay events. He was a well-respected judge of the National Fiddlers Competition in Nashville, TN.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at 3p.m. Sunday September 8, 2013 at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Bear Creek. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the church activity building and other times at the home of Darrell and Shawn Poe, 467 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek.
