Ethel Mollie Gaines

Ethel Dunn Gaines, 96, passed away January 7, 2017. She was born in Chatham County, NC on September 26, 1920 to Willis and Ila Womble Dunn. She is survived by four children: Brenda Gaines Harrington (Jim) of Raleigh, NC, Robert Gaines (Margaret) of Cary, NC, Willis Wayne Gaines (Susie) of Raleigh, NC, Kevin Gaines (Deb) of Delmar, Maryland and son-in-law, David Dean of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Gayle Harrington, Cyndi Cantrell, Mark Gaines, Emily Hartman, Dustin Gaines, Lauren Lombard, Derek Gaines and Emily Ovalle; step-grandchildren, Mandy Alexander, Heather Byers and Benjamin Blase; fifteen great grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Gaines; daughter, Joyce Gaines Dean and grandson, James Lee Harrington; three brothers, Alex, Raymond and Wilton Dunn; sister, Virginia Dunn. Ethel Gaines was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting and quilting. She crocheted afghans, bedspreads and tablecloths and quilted at least two quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Tyson's Creek Baptist Church until failing health prevented her attendance. Visitation will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, NC from 6:30 – 8:30 Wednesday, January 11, 2017. The funeral service will be held at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Scott Walker, Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Joey Cantrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.
