Emma Jean Dark Williford, 87, of Siler City died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Williford was born in Chatham County on August 6, 1930 the daughter of Eugene J. and Margaret Ellen (Hanner) Dark. Emma Jean was a member of the Siler City Presbyterian Church and retired from the Town of Siler City where she had worked as the Customer Service Representative with 22 years of service. Emma Jean enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge and any activities involving church, family, friends and travel. She truly was the matriarch of her large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. "Jimmy" Williford; her parents and a dear brother, Robert H. Dark.
She is survived by two daughters: Pam W. Peavey and husband, Bill of Siler City, Jean W. Pinkston and husband, Charles of Franklin; grandchildren, Priscilla Peavey, Olivia P. Nettles, Jesse Pinkston, Ellen P. Love, and Gabe Pinkston and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Siler City Presbyterian Church, 720 W. 3rd St., Siler City with Pastor Sue Flippin and Rev. Richard LaDew officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes Fund, c/o Siler City Presbyterian Church.
