Elmo H. McNeese, 86, of Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. McNeese was born October 23, 1928 in Franklinton, Louisiana the son of Jessie and Jennie (Summerall) McNeese. Elmo was a farmer with a love for horses. He was an outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and traveling. He had a gift for gab and could be found talking with people from all walks of life. Elmo served his country as a Merchant Marine, in the Coast Guard. He was a rescue diver and an expert marksman.
He was a member of the Siler City Masonic Lodge # 903 A.F. & A.M. for 62 years, a Shriner, and a Scottish Rite. Elmo was a 32 Degree Mason and received a Diamond Jubilee Certificate for 60 years of service. He had served as chaplain for the Siler City Lodge. He had a brick placed, in his honor, at the Children's Hospital in Greensville, South Carolina and often transported children to the Shriner Hospital. He was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church and was a past superintendant of the Sunday School.
Elmo was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Jean (Culberson) McNeese; daughters, Janet M. Faulk and husband, Bobby of Mooresville, Margie M. Edwards and husband, Jeff of Columbia, TN; sons, Henry McNeese and wife, Michaela of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael McNeese and wife, English of Staley; sister, Jennie M. Henderson, Lafayette, LA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
