Dorothy Kidd Hancock Martindale

Dorothy Kidd Hancock Martindale, 90, of Tom Hancock Road, Bear Creek died Monday, August 19, 2013 at FirstHealth Hospice Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Mrs. Martindale was born in Chatham County on May 23, 1923 the daughter of Rev. John C. and Lula (Caviness) Kidd. Dot was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking for her family and friends, quilting, crocheting and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas W. Hancock, Sr. and later Floyd Martindale; her parents; son, Thomas Woodrow Hancock, Jr.; brothers, Charlie, Lewis, Henry and Norman and sisters, Margaret, Cornie and Cordia. She is survived by two daughters: Judith H. Nall and husband, Ritchie of Bear Creek, NC, Diana H. Hornsby and husband, Jim of Lake Wateree, SC; one son: Donnie Lee Hancock and wife, Emily of Burlington, NC; one sister: Johnsie K. Bouldin of Bennett, NC; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sterling of Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and other times at the home of Judith and Ritchie Nall, 774 Tom Hancock Road, Bear Creek. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston with Ritchie Nall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
