Dawn Umberger Allred, 80, previously of Siler City, NC, passed away peacefully at her home in Savannah, GA Monday, February 20, 2023. Daughter to the late Gilbert R. and Eunice D. Umberger, Dawn was born on February 26, 1942 in Durham, NC.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Allred, and brother, Richard Umberger.
Dawn graduated from Durham High School in 1960. Following high school, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Greensboro, NC for 37 years. Upon retiring from the IRS, Dawn enjoyed traveling to see new places with her church group and friends as well as volunteering to play music for patients at the Randolph Hospital. As a devoted member of the Rocky River Baptist Church, she was able to share her love of music by playing the piano or organ for the congregation every Sunday. She will always be remembered for her sweet nature and charming sense of humor.
She is survived by her son, Jarrett Allred, daughter-in-law, Natalie Allred, and her two grandchildren, Jack and Drew Allred of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Vivian Umberger, nephews Cecil Umberger and Gilbert Umberger, his wife, Lora, and their children, Alyson and Richard.
A funeral service will be held at Rocky River Baptist Church on Saturday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Rocky River Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
