Siler City

David Anthony “Tony” Cook, (owner of Tony Cook Plumbing), 62, of Siler City, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at UNC Hospital visited by his family and friends.

Tony was born July 4, 1962 to Linley Japp Cook and the late, Jane Olivia Welch Cook in Mt Airy, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane and is survived by his father, Lynn Cook. Tony is also survived by his loving wife, Susan Dowd Wustrow Cook and his children, Nick Cook of Siler City, Jennifer Grillo and spouse Wyatt, of Dunn, NC, Johnny Cook of Siler City, Olivia Ray Cook, Siler City, Killian Wustrow and spouse Jessica, of Spruce Pine, NC, Tristan Stinson and wife Katie, of Oak Ridge, NC, and four grandchildren that he adored, Walter Grillo, Kieran Wustrow, Kaleb and Karson Stinson. Our family will never be the same without Pop-Pop. Tony is survived by his sister, Tammy Martin and spouse Randy, Niece, Paige Meadows and husband Jason, grand-niece Tenley, Nephew Nathan Calhoun, grand-nephew Colton and grand-niece, Cameron. Tony loved his family so much and his wish was to always be with them as much as possible. He also loved his extended family, all of his Aunts, Uncles and cousins, his Mother in Law, Barbara Dowd and his lifelong friend and brother, Rusty Callicutt.

Tony graduated from North Surry High School in Mt. Airy, NC. He enjoyed school, but his passion was football. Tony played at Mt Airy High when they won the State Championship. He then attended North Carolina State University where he continued to play football. After college, Tony played football on various teams, but he found that he loved to share his passion and knowledge of the game through coaching. Tony coached football from recreational flag football, through Middle School football with the Jordan Matthews Jets, and then moved into coaching High School Football at Chatham Central High School, Bear Creek, NC. He was a good coach, and he loved his players. Tony was still addressed as coach by many of his former players when he encountered them in town. Tony loved all sports, he also coached recreational baseball and basketball as his kids were growing up.

Anybody that knew Tony, or visited his home, knew he was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers Fan! Football season was his favorite season. Every year, when football was about to start, he would ask all of us in the family if there was anything we needed to tell him before the season started. He never missed a game. Along with football, Tony’s second love was college basketball. He worked at the Rams Club at UNC for over 15 years and was an avid UNC Tar Heels fan. He attended some of the biggest UNC games over the years and loved to tell everyone exactly where he stood at each game or during a famous play. Next to his Lord and Savior and his family, sports were his true passion in his life.

Tony was a very active member at Providence Independent Methodist Church for over 20 years. He was on the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Administrative Committee, Superintendent, and held offices on the Cemetery, Landscape, Youth and Men’s Committees. Tony was always working at the Church. You could find him mowing the yard and cemetery, planting flower beds, improving structures or repairing numerous things in the Church. Tony was the superintendent, so he led Service every Sunday and on occasion, would provide the sermon. He loved to preach about his Lord and Savior and His Word. Tony will be truly missed at Providence Methodist Church.

Tony Cook Plumbing, established in 2000, was one of Tony’s most important accomplishments. After moving to Chatham County, he started his company from scratch. Through hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears and a loyalty to his customers that is still hands above to this day, he worked his way up to becoming one of the largest Plumbing companies in Siler City. Tony always tried to treat his customers with respect, when working on someone’s property, he would always say, “I try to work on others houses like they are my own”. He would go above and beyond to make sure his customers were taken care of and satisfied. Tony’s heart was as big as his desire to help others, there were many jobs done for a cake or a jar of homemade jelly. Tony definitely never met a stranger or anyone that he wasn’t willing to help in any way he could.

Tony was also a member of several organizations and clubs. He was a very active member in the Chatham County LEO association and other organizations that helped the community. Tony’s favorite place to visit was the beach. The family had many wonderful trips to the coast, especially on July 4th every year. The fourth was Tony’s birthday, so each year the families on both sides would meet at Ocean Isle Beach to celebrate Tony on his day. He loved to watch and play with the kids and grandkids on the beach during the day, then after his birthday dinner, the family would sit with him on the beach and watch the fireworks. After the first firework every year, Tony would smile and say, “Now that’s the way to celebrate our country and my birthday!” Tony loved to joke around with others, he tried to make others laugh and feel comfortable and included no matter the situation. He was truly a kind hearted and loving soul.

We truly love and thank all of our family, customers and friends made along the way for all your support, love and prayers during this time. Tony will be greatly missed, there is a hole in our family now that we will have to work together to get through day by day. Due to the large number of family, especially those out of town, the family will have a memorial service for Tony later in the future, so we’re asking that in leu of flowers, please feel free to make contributions to Providence Methodist Church, mailing address 1170 Bonlee Bennett Rd, Siler City, NC 27344.
