Clyde Thomas Edwards, Jr. of Goldston died Friday, September 19, 2014 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Clyde was born in Chatham County on August 20, 1944, the son of Clyde T. and Doris Howerton Edwards.
Clyde was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, retired truck driver for Cone Mills and a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the American Legion Post # 305, Snow Camp. Clyde loved gardening, the outdoors, fishing and his family and grandchildren. Clyde loved to pick and he never meet a stranger, and especially his beloved dog Suzie. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years; Ruby Tillman Edwards of the home, daughters: Jerri E. Saunders and husband, Jeffrey of Bear Creek, Allison Overman of Saxapahaw, sister: Mollie Ann Badders of Siler City, NC, brothers: Delane Edwards of Ft. Myers, FL. and Mark Crumpler of Siler City, grandchildren; Kristen Nicole, Morgan, Jacob Saunders and Troy Overman.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2981 Hwy 42, Goldston with Rev. Phillip Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph Honor Guard.
