Clestor G." Shorty" Bray, 101, of Siler City died Monday, November 21, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Bray was born in Chatham County on July 15, 1915 the son of John Harrison and Carrie (Gee) Bray. Clestor was the oldest member of Brush Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. His work experiences include the Instant Service Station, Phillips 66 Station. He also worked for Chatham Hospital in the collections department and retired from A. J. Schneierson and Sons where he worked in the shipping department. Clestor enjoyed traveling, especially attending horse shows. He also found pleasure in working in his yard, hunting and fishing.
Clestor was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leatus Bray; sisters, Fleta Shaw and Dot Hough.
He is survived by his wife of 79 years: Versie (Jessup) Bray; two daughters: Jane Carol Crump of Matthews, NC and Sheila B. Rose (David) of Glen Allen, VA ;one son: Gregory G. Bray (Patsy) of Bennett, NC; one brother: J. C. Bray of Siler City, NC; grandchildren, Lisa Sikes (Mike), Michael Bray (Kristen), Jerry Bray and Jennifer Bray; great-grandchildren, Cole Shipe, Corey, Coty and Chad Sikes.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and other times at the family home. The funeral will be Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Frank Taylor and Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.
