Charles Lee Safrit

Charles Lee Safrit, 68, of Siler City died Friday, April 14, 2017 at UNC Hospitals. Mr. Safrit was born in Anson County on March 12, 1949 the son of Lee Monroe and Julia Ross (Brower) Safrit. Charles was a graduate of Appalachian State University and was employed by Chatham County Schools as Band Director at Chatham Central High School for 30 years. Charles was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church in Winston Salem and was currently attending Rocky River Baptist Church. Charles was proud of his Scottish heritage and shared his talents playing bagpipes on many occasions. He was active in Clan Donald USA, Highland Games and Southeastern Karate Association. He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Bonnie (Clapp) Safrit; one daughter: Megan Safrit Privett (Colt); two sons: Charles (Chuck) Lee Safrit, II (Wendy), Adam Safrit; grandchildren, Caitlyn Safrit, Nevaeh and David Privett, Annie and Vivien Safrit; step-grandchildren, Hayden and Raven Cook; grand dogs; sisters, Julie Gadd (David) Janice Safrit-Chambers (Mark) and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City with Rev. Dr. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
