Charles A. (Hollywood) Hackney, 64, of 430 Calvin Phillips Road, Bennett died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Hackney was born in Moore County on March 4, 1949, the son of John and Josie (Brewer) Hackney. Charles was an employee of Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, a Chatham County Deputy for 15 years, he spent five years with the Lee County Animal Control, served as a reserved police officer with Robbins Police Department, and had been an insurance agent with Southland Life Insurance Company. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Charles loved fishing, hunting and working with leather and wood. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Sunday school teacher and sound room technician.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Patricia (Phillips) Hackney; three sons: Tony Hackney and wife, Tara of Robbins, NC, Jerry Hackney of Bennett, NC and Drew Hackney and wife, Maggie of Siler City, NC: a granddaughter, Jacy Hackney; and several nieces.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 22, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Fall Creek Baptist Church, 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett with Rev. Scott Allmond, Rev. Chance Walters and Rev. Tim Strider officiating.
Burial with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the State Employee Credit Union, att. Ann Swire, 101 Walmart Super Center, Siler City, NC 27344, for the Jacy Hackney Scholarship Fund.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Vithala at the VA Hospital and Randolph Hospice for their sincere care of Charles and Pat.
