Cecil Wilton Stackhouse, Sr. went to be with his Savior November 8, 2011 after years of service and community involvement. Funeral services will be held Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Siler City, NC at 2:30 PM. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall from 12:00 PM until service time. "Stack" was born November 23, 1924 to Isaac Preston "IP" and Mary Lane Stackhouse and grew up in Lake View, South Carolina. Young Cecil volunteered in the Navy and served in the Armed Guard during World War II. He attended Wake Forest University after his service. Stack raised his five sons in Siler City, NC. He served in many capacities for the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Charter Member of Chatham Wildlife Club, Chatham County Board of Elections, and Chatham and Randolph County Draft Board. Stack volunteered in community services for the Meals on Wheels, Relay for Life, and the many functions at the First Methodist Church. He recently received his 60 year pin from the Siler City Masonic Lodge. He organized and participated in the Siler City Square Dancers for 25 years. As a member of the business community he was the Manager of the Goodyear / Carolina Tire Store from 1966 until his retirement in 1991. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosie Lee and brother Preston Bruce "PB" Stackhouse. He is survived by his life partner and wife of 58 years Marjorie Lowe Stackhouse; 2 sisters Mary Alma Briggs and Virginia Jones; 5 sons and daughter-in-laws, John and Jenni, Butch and Deb, Tommy and Amy, Charles and Robin, and David and Terrie; ten grandkids, Amy, Preston, Sean, Isaac , Christian, Lindsay, Becca, Tori, Ashlyn and Hanna; sisters: Mary Briggs of Reidsville, NC; Virginia Jones of Dillon SC; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Our Daddy Pop / Dad taught us to fish, how to live and he cheered us as we competed. He demonstrated how to treat a customer and how to find ways to serve others. He loved to do for family, friends and community. He and Mom showed us how true love endures and how two become one, inseparable to the end. He has left us a legacy that we will all carry proudly. The Family wishes to thank the staff at the Chatham Hospital for the loving care shown to their Dad and family during his illness.
