Carrie Brewer Gillikin Campen "Our Beloved Aunt Carrie", 103, of Siler City, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
Mrs. Campen was born in Chatham County on November 21, 1919, the daughter of Rufus A. Brewer, Sr. and Carrie Craft Brewer.
Carrie was a faithful member of Rocky River Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #9. Carrie graduated from Mars Hill College in 1940, then Appalachian State Teachers College in 1941. She retired after many years as a teacher in the Craven County School System. She was the Owner/Operator of the Earl of Craven Lodge in New Bern. Carrie enjoyed her time as a candy striper for Chatham Hospital. In addition to her parents, Carrie is preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd Gillikin and Neil Campen; brothers, Rufus A. Brewer, Jr., James Warren Brewer, and twin brother, Harry Brewer; and her sister, Mozelle Vinsant.
She is survived by her nephews, James B. Brewer and wife Jenny of Siler City, Edgar D. Brewer and wife Susan of Davidson, NC, and Harry D. Brewer and wife Cindy of Fuquay Varina; nieces, Candace B. Johnson of Siler City, Sue A Vinsant of Albuquerque, NM, and Peggy V. Benson and husband Rick of Waikoloa Village, Hawaii; and several great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery, 4436 Siler City Snow Camp Rd., Siler City with Rev. Jim Wall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
