Billy Gene Wilkie, 86, of Silk Hope Liberty Rd, Siler City, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Cambridge Hills of Pittsboro, NC surrounded by his family. Billy was born the youngest son of Charlie and Nettie (Gerry) Wilkie, on November 11, 1931.
Billy was a native of Chatham County, a retired house painter and chicken farmer of 60 years. He was a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nettie (Gerry) Wilkie, five sisters and four brothers.
He met his beautiful bride, Nancy Lee Hargrove, in Siler City and they married in 1953 at the home of Billy's brother Lacy G. Wilkie of Siler City, NC. Billy loved to spend time with his family. In his earlier years he was actively involved in golf, hunting, and participating in church activities. Billy was known as a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
Billy is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nancy Hargrove Wilkie of the home; one grandson Derrick Hall of the home; two daughters, Lee Ann Wilkie (grandson Stacy and Ashleigh Glover); Brenda and George (Pug) Smith (grandson Jason Smith); one son Barry and Rhonda Wilkie; (grandson's Dustin and Jessica Wilkie, Lance and Caprice Wilkie, Drew and Leslie Wilkie); six great-granddaughters; Olivia and Emma Wilkie, Sophia and Skylar Glover, Braylen Wilkie and Jordyn Wilkie, two great-grandsons; Brennen Wilkie and Jackson Wilkie and one unborn great-grandson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Plainfield Friends Meeting, 1956 Plainfield Church Road, Siler City. Funeral services will follow at Plainfield Friends Meeting at 2:00 pm with Wayne Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Meeting cemetery.
