Betty Eleanor Moody

Betty Denkins Moody, age 85, of Siler City passed away on December 29, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones, at SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Health Care.

Mrs. Moody was born in Sanford, NC on February 24, 1936, the daughter of the late Jessie Carl Denkins and Eleanor Mae Phillips Denkins.

Mrs. Moody attended Siler City First Wesleyan Church.  She worked for Selig Manufacturing for many years until the Plant closed.  Afterwards, she worked for Hickory Mountain Farms until her retirement.

She was a loving neighbor who dearly loved her neighbors.  Betty’s favorite times were working in her yard growing beautiful trees, shrubs, and flowers.

She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, husband Clarence Moody, her parents, her brothers, Bobby and Billy Denkins of Lee County, NC and great-grandson Christopher Fowler, all of Lee County, NC.

Surviving Mrs. Moody are her daughters, Betty Jean Haire Carter of Sanford, NC and Phyllis Haire Bayles (David) of Siler City, NC.  She is grandmother to Christine Fowler Walker, Michael Berry, Donna Berry Harris, Michelle Coleman Johnson, and Lori Bayles.  Great-grandchildren are Tiffany Fowler Robles, Charles (Chuck) Harris Jr., Taylor Harris, Christian Brown, Tyler Brown, Casey Lane Fields, and Landon Fields, and siblings Barbara, Broadus, Bruce, and Benny Earl Denkins all of Lee County.  Mrs. Moody also had five generations from both daughters having great-great granddaughters, Kristiana and Josie (Betty Jean) and Sawyer (Phyllis).

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at the Smith and Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, with service starting at 2:00 PM with Rev. Don Southern officiating, 230 N. 2nd Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 715 Sandy Branch Church Rd., Bear Creek, NC 27207.
