Betty Jones Hughes

Betty Jones Hughes, 84, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Universal Health Care Of Ramseur. Mrs. Hughes was born in Greensboro on January 30, 1929 the daughter of Lawrence Barber and Mozelle (Underwood) Jones. Betty graduated valedictorian of her class at Greensboro Senior High School. She was retired as a bookkeeper with Quality Molding Products and worked part time at ACE Hardware. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, the Mary Beth Group and served on the Altar Guild for over 20 years. Betty enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren, cooking, playing the piano and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted C. Hughes; her parents; grandsons, Nicky Hughes and Drew Hughes. She is survived by four sons: Steve Hughes and wife, Debbie of Bear Creek, NC, Chuck Hughes of Siler City, NC, Mike Hughes and wife, Kim of Huntersville, NC, Chris Hughes and wife, Angie of Bear Creek, NC; sister, Barbara J. Poplin of Newport News; VA ; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, August 26, 2013 one hour prior to the service at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Clyde Denny and Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P O Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
