Betty Jean Thomas Phillips, 86, of Benji Williams Road, Staley died Monday, January 2, 2017 at Chatham Hospital.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Chatham County on March 2, 1930 the daughter of Thomas Jesse and Georgia (Jennings) Thomas. Betty was a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church where she had served as church treasurer and was a member of the Senior Ladies and Men's Sunday School Class. She was active in other church activities. Betty had been employed as sales manager at Hadley Peoples Manufacturing. Betty enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie M. Phillips; brothers, James Don Thomas and Bill Thomas; grandson, Shane Isley; son-in-law, Spurgeon "Sonny" Isley.
Betty is survived by two daughters: Pam P. Isley of Liberty, Anne P. Cargill and husband, Robert of Greenville, NC; one sister: Helen Beck and husband , Welford of Siler City; grandchildren, Kristen Wu, Jordan Breuer, Kaitlyn Cargill, and Jessica Brown; great-grandchildren, Nina, Emerson, Lucy, Maximus and Austin and a special lifelong friend, Polly Willett of Cary.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Road, Siler City, NC. The funeral will follow Thursday at 3:00 PM at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
