Bartrie Sears Atwood, 96, of Siler City died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Siler City Center.
Mrs. Atwood was born in Chatham County on April 15, 1919 the daughter of James W. and Mossie (Fox) Sears. Bartrie was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies # 3 Sunday School Class and had served as church librarian. She was a retired executive secretary. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing the piano, playing tennis and golf.
Bartrie Atwood was a dynamic, self-made woman with a powerful work ethic. Her drive and determination led to successful career paths in a number of industries, including trucking, tobacco and sporting.
Always creative, Bartrie in her later years developed a keen interest in art. As a result, she left a small legacy of original oil paintings to her friends and family.
Throughout her life, Bartrie was devoted to her faith and family. A larger-than-life personality, she will be sorely missed.
Bartrie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sinclair Atwood; infant brother, Broughton; her parents; brothers and their wives, Kelly (Marie), Kenneth (Trenis and Marie), Howard (Johnnie), Barney; step-son, William Sinclair Atwood; nephew, James Sears.
She is survived by niece, Carol Smith of Siler City, nephews, Stephen Sears of Siler City, Martin Sears of Burlington, Jerryll Sears of Winston Salem, David G. Sears of Myrtle Beach, SC.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Loves Creek Baptist Cemetery, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City with Rev. Kenny Black officiating.
