Barry Eugene Parker, 64, of Bear Creek, died Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home.

Barry was born at the US Naval Hospital in Rota, Spain on November 18, 1959, to Henry Eugene Parker and Clara Fay Peltier Parker. He attended East Carolina University where he earned his BSBA and later worked as a finance manager for a large financial institution. While attending ECU he was a member of the tennis team from 1979 to 1982. Barry was a talented tennis player and a certified professional of the United States Professional Tennis Association. Barry spent time as a coach for local schools and a tennis instructor for many youths and older adults in Chatham and Lee Counties. He attended Meronies Methodist church where he would share his special gift of trumpet playing with the congregation as special music presentations and for funerals of friends as requested. Some of Barry’s happiest days were spent floating on the pontoon boat on Lake Gaston, and simply visiting with and entertaining friends with his funny stories. He loved to make people laugh. He was a caring and generous friend always quick to help someone in need.

Barry is survived by his wife Lana Parker of the home; sisters, Carole Phillips and husband, Patrick Agostino, of Souderton, PA, Janet Parker and wife, Mary Fooks, of Waterville, ME, and Terrie Smallwood and husband, George, of Brooks, GA; and sisters-in-law, Lynette Ginn, of Pittsboro, NC and Lisa Jones and husband, Dean, of Snow Hill, NC; nieces, Rebecca Parker and Kate Gingerich; nephews, Roland Phillips, IV and Levi Jones; and several great nieces and nephews. 

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Fay Parker; father and mother-in-law, Winfred and Jeanne Ginn; and niece, Lacey Jones.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington St., Raleigh NC, 27605.
