Alma Ruth Thomas Fields, 89, of Bear Creek, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023.
Alma was born in Chatham County on May 30, 1933, to William Colon and Lillie E. Hart Thomas. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church. Mrs. Fields retired in 1987 from the North Carolina Highway Patrol as the secretary for the D1 office in Siler City. Alma enjoyed spending time with her family, baking and doing crafts. In addition to her parents Alma is preceded in death by her husband William Fields; siblings, Nina Mae McIver, Paul Elwood Thomas and Milton A. Thomas.
Mrs. Fields is survived by her son, William Dwight Fields and wife, Janet of Siler City; daughters, Sandra Fields Duty and husband, Joe of Broadway and Cindy Fields Mason and husband, Ray of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Ethan Mason and wife, Rachel, Erica McLeod and husband, Sammy; great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Chloe, and Caitlin McLeod, Joseph Duty, and Riley and Nathan Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at her home on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Antioch Christian Church, 246 Antioch Christian Church Road, Bear Creek, from 1:00-2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jimmy Talton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
